No one will want to live there anymore.
The Seattle City Council has recently approved on a plan to defund the police and reduce police officers. The proposal calls for laying off as many as 100 officers as well as cut the annual budget for the police department.
A vote was cast and only a single council member voted against the budget plan, but she stated that it was because the plan did not do enough in defunding the police.
Councilwoman Teresa Mosqueda stated, “While we can’t do everything in this summer rebalancing package, we have set the path forward for tremendous work in front of us as a council and as a city.”
The mayor and police chief tried to reason with the city council and urged them to slow down on discussions about police defunding, however, they were ignored.
They even stated that the “layoffs would disproportionately target newer officers, often hired from Black and brown communities, and would inevitably lead to lawsuits.”
Things are starting to get even worse in Seattle.
